One of these is The Legend of Zelda, the most awesome video game series that I've had the pleasure to play. Not that I play many to begin with.
I saw my friend playing Link to the Past when I was like, 9. And this past year, I was super bored around October. Eighth grade year was a total blow-off, and I was just... bored after school. Then I realized we had a Wii. So I asked my mom for Twilight Princess for Christmas.
And I had a shit ton of fun playing it. I loved the story, the temples were awesome, and it was just... epic. Also, Link was pretty cute. That helped, not that it needed much help. My brother also got into it, but he was only 9 then, and he totally sucked at it. He eventually finished it, but it took him like, over 100 hours.
Yeah.
So we got the DS games. These were also fun, even though I lost my damn DS that had Spirit Tracks in it before I could finish it. I still can't find it, which pisses me off to no end.
We also got the Collector's Edition for the Gamecube. I've been playing Ocarina of Time, because Majora's Mask has made me feel stupid.
Love all these games.
And now what I'm super excited about is the upcoming Zelda game, Skyward Sword. There are multiple reasons why.
-------------------------------
Zelda
I've seen cutscenes of her in the beginning of the game from E3 2011, and she's really carefree and happy. She also jumps off the edge of the island like a total badass - with nothing to catch her. She just trusts Link will. Which is still pretty awesome.
I've heard a bunch of stuff about her being an oracle and having some sort of holy power... Hoping it's not the Triforce, just for something different, but it'll still be cool anyway.
-----------------------------------------
Another reason why I'm super excited about this game is that there's Zelink written all over it. If you don't know pop culture, it's a shipping. You smash the names together. It's Brangelina, but for Nintendo nerds. But Link totally likes Zelda; it's written all over his freakin' face.
Also, explain this:
There's also a scene where Link kneels down and takes her hand... And apparently, they have a VERY trusting relationship (!!!). Zelda wakes Link up to show him her new dress for the ceremony and she ("playfully") shoves him off of Skyloft to force him to practice bird-riding. And before she gets sucked down to Hyrule, she was about to tell him something VERY IMPORTANT THAT SHE HAD BEEN HOLDING IN FOR A WHILE.
There's no other option - they better kiss or at least hug in this game, or I will go ape-shit-banana-monkeys. I'll still go apeshit if they touch each other anyway.
--------------------------------
Ghirahim
...
or the full title that he'd rather you indulge him with - LORD GHIRAHIM
(took that straight from the cutscene - caps and all)
I'm horribly afraid that this guy will rape Link... just kidding!
But seriously, this guy is the reason this game should be rated T. I can totally see him, like, "playing with his food", like being overtly cruel and malicious. Which would be awesome, but still creepy.
But seriously, he talks about how since he doesn't have Zelda, it's given him a strong appetite for bloodshed. He then walks up behind Link and says right into his ear that he promises not to outright murder him - just beat him 'til he's almost dead.
Yeah, because that's so much better....
But I'm expecting some dark shit from this game.
Oh yeah, and Ghirahim does the tongue thing.
-----------------------------------------------
Link
Is it just me, or has Link developed more of a personality in the last couple 3D games? I know people like to think of Link as a version of themselves, but I have honestly never done that. One, I'm a girl... and I think Link's cute. That's just weird. Also, I'd never walk around with that hat on, or at least I won't admit it out loud. But I've seen cutscenes and he seems totally human and relatable. The animation and acting have soared to new heights (lol) for this game. There's a sequence where Link is entering the Fire Temple, and when the door opens, a burst of heat rushes out. Instead of facing it like the robot that he isn't, he puts his elbow in front of his face and soldiers on like a boss. There's also the fact that this is what 99.9% of what all humans would do when encountered with a bunch of... hotness? Lava? Take your pick. Either way, it's cool how more realistic he seems. Add that to the whole Zelda thing in this game, and he seems more and more like a real character. I'm waiting with crossed fingers for when Link gets lines in the series. For God's sake, the guy's been holding it in for 25 years! You'd wanna talk too!

Gameplay
The gameplay alone is enough to give me a fangasm. I love books where there's a crap ton of swordplay, and I've always wanted to learn fencing, because it looks cool. So the fact that all the enemies will actively block all your attacks, and that people are saying that this will be the greatest simulation of swordplay in a video game... It makes me wish it was Christmas, because I'm gonna make my parents spend the 50 or 60 bucks on the game... But there's more than that. The enemies' intelligence has skyrocketed. If you strike to the left and they're blocking right, they will switch on you and block left before you can hit them. It's more like actual swordplay, where there's periods of watching and observing, then a quick clash of blades. There will also be certain types of goblins - some will have horns so they can call in reinforcements, some will be on towers that you have to assplode, and when Link's hanging on an edge, they will stomp on his hands and hit him with a club to try and get him to let go.
It looks freakin' awesome. I'm kind of disappointed though, because I heard that the two first temples will be the (no surprise) Forest and Fire/Volcano temples. But I've also heard it called the first dungeon called the Sky Temple, which would be the one from the E3 demo. So I'm confused. But there's three different kind of levels of the game:
- There's Skyloft, where Link and Zelda are from originally. It's a bunch of islands floating in the sky, and you get around on a huge-ass bird (eeeeeehhh!!). The people of Skyloft aren't aware of the fact that there's a land below the clouds... But then when Zelda disappears - like "falls off her bird" disappears - Link has to go down to...
- Hyrule, which is ruled by the above sparkly figure. You travel between Hyrule and Skyloft with birdy statues, and this is where (I'm assuming) most of the temples are.
- The Silent Realm is a place that combines the Twilight Realm with the Tears of Light in the beginning of Twilight Princess and the whole super-sneaky Link thing from the Tower of Spirits/Temple of the Ocean King. You wander around this place collecting these tears, and powerful Guardians that can kill you in one strike. And here's the interesting part: it's supposed to be a spiritual quest, and you have to give up your sword to go through these warped areas. So basically, you are completely defenseless against these guardians. I think it sounds really cool, and I've seen footage of it. Awesome, terrifying music when the Guardians wake up. I've heard some confusion about this one's name too. I like Silent Realm better, but I've also heard Siren Realm... So yeah...
- There's the entire world, which is like a dungeon in itself.
- There are the dungeons, which are well, dungeons.
- And then you might have to backtrack to these dungeons, meaning there's more than one dungeon in the above dungeons....
Okay, there are new aspects of the game that they've released like just now. So I'm gonna end this here. I will not be looking up Skyward Sword again until I actually play the game. So as of 9/27, this is kind of up to date.
